Sunday Mornin'

i used to be an avid journal-er. the peace of a place that only i knew brought great sanctity into my life. however, in the past year-or-so, places that only i know have transformed from a haven from the business of the world to a kind of alienating isolation. perhaps i've come to know my need for other peaceful souls along side me.

the following is a quote that i would write in my journal and store up for myself like a treasure in a barren land. perfect for when things got overwhelming. i realize now how non-sensical that actually is.

"The trouble with steeling yourself against the harshness of reality is that same steel that secures your life against being destroyed secures your life also against being opened up and transformed by the holy power that life itself comes from. You can survive on your own. You can grow strong on your own. You can even prevail on your own. But you cannot become human on your own".

thanks, frederick buechner. you are oh so wise.

my first attempt at blog-vulnerability. and still unsure of how i feel about it.

p.s. mad props to miss m.e. olmstead for both the introduction of mr. buechner to my life, and the banner photo of this beloved blog. oh, and for being a source of great peace.
